From March 12-15, 2023, Dr. Kaczynski attended the American Academy of Health Behavior Annual Scientific Meeting in San Francisco, CA. In addition to attending several interesting sessions focused around the conference theme of “The Science of Identities: Measurement and Methods for Translational Health Behavior Research”, I gave a plenary presentation entitled “Association between Socioeconomic Disadvantage and Neighborhood Walkability Across the United States”. This abstract was selected among the top 10% of all those submitted and featured research led by BEACH Lab doctoral student Shirelle Hallum (and fellow BEACH Lab doctoral student Anna Chupak did a fabulous job helping me put together some amazing presentation slides). I also had an opportunity to catch up with several old and new friends and of course, along with my fiancée Erin, I couldn’t leave CA without taking some time before and after the conference to check out all the excellent beer, wine, and sightseeing San Francisco and Napa had to offer. Thankfully, next year’s AAHB meeting is scheduled much closer to home in Savannah, GA and the BEACH Lab is sure to have a strong presence once again.
